EU approval of RR2 Xtend soybeans adds a great tool to control tough broadleaf weeds in soybeans. The 2016 Tomah soybean plot features 3 RR2X varieties, 2017R2X, 1917R2X, and 1816R2X. These products are planted right next to our existing Channel RR2 varieties giving us a great comparison to make the right seed choices next season. Pictured above is new Channel 2017R2X.
This field of 96 day Channel 196-77STX planted on April 27th is nearing the end of pollination. Most fields have started silking and dropping pollen this week. I know many people are concerned about the high temperatures predicted for weeks end. Most fields I have scouted this week will be at least half pollinated before the heat hits. The main concern will be night time temperatures. The forecast shows lows on the hottest days of 67-71 degrees. This will allow plant temps to cool and pollination to occur. 1-2 days of 95+ degree heat during pollination with our adequate soil moisture will lower yields less than 1%.
Construction of Yield PRO's new seed and equipment storage facility along highway 27 near Leon is underway. Next year this site will also include demo plots featuring all Channel Seed products.
Both Tomah plots are in amazing condition! Nearly all the soybean varieties are canopied in 30" rows. The corn has 2 leaves until pollination. With recent rains our area is setup for excellent pollination conditions.
