I harvested a few acres of early planted Channel 1818R2X beans today. The yield check on the heavy soil was 69 bu/a. The sandy areas yielded around 40 bu/a.

Is that what I think it is? This weather is pushing along corn maturity. Channel 197-90VT2P planted May 7th. I have also observed a lot of top die back caused by Anthracnose and Northern Corn Leaf Blight. Watch stalks close if you plan on harvesting late.
The Yield PRO Channel Soybean plot is maturing nicely. Maturity ranges from 2.5 to 1.6, planted on April 24th. New varieties for 2020 planting being tested here are 1920R2X and 2020R2X. Both look amazing and represent the 5th generation of Xtend soybean genetics. Enlist and GT27 varieties are only on their 1st or 2nd generation. With waterhemp taking over as our #1 weed problem the Xtend system is the answer.
Channel 194-49DG-VT2P is one of the most impressive hybrids I have ever seen. Even our pumpkins are behind this year. Our area could definately use more heat. I have spent a few days in Chicago for Channel seed meetings. This picture was taken in Dixon, IL were I attended 2 days of crop insurance training with Agperspective Inc. Traveling through northern Illinois offers a unique perspective on this years crop. There is good, bad, late, and tons of prevent plant. Should be an interesting harvest when yield numbers become clear.
192-08 left and new 194-49 right. I am glad these hybrids are Channel's. Our early lineup is amazing! Channel 1818R2X filling pods nicely! The Channel Seedsman Council that I sit on visited the Chicago Board of Trade on Tuesday. The markets have been terrible lately, it was like visiting the scene of the crime. Visiting with 20 Seedsman from all over the country was great. We all have an inconsistent late crop.
Fungicide trials will be a focus over the next few years. This summer I have tried 2 different products applied with 2 different spray systems.
This is why you buy Xtend soybeans. Killing 3' tall resistant waterhemp is no problem. Giant ragweed tip over before you leave the field. The Xtend program when followed is extremely safe and effective. Liberty Link or GT27 trait packages can not match the killing power and residual that come from dicamba.
Another 3.25" last night with a lot of wind. Can't change it so might as well have a laugh. My cousin Ryan Olson sent me this link.
Channel 194-49 left and 197-90 right. I was able to find the ear and count rows. 94 had 20-18 rows while 97 had 18 consistently. Girth is determined at V5-V6 making early growth and plant health very important. I recommend checking fields that looked rough early in the season. I expect many fields lost a couple potential rows of kernals because of our stellar spring weather.
