The ears on the left are from the new 98 day Channel DroughtGard hybrid 198-00DG-VT2P. The ears on the right are from a Croplan variety known for good stress and drought tolerance. The difference is very clear! As the dry spell continues the water use efficiency of the DroughtGard trait will become even more apparent. Now is a great time to evaluate the crops pollination. If the silk falls off freely you know the kernal is properly pollinated. This competitive hybrid had substantial tip back compared to the Channel product. These small differences equate to big yield implications. With lower commodity prices every bushel becomes more important.
