Here are a few pictures of the root structures of the new hybrids in the Channel lineup. The Channel varieties were dug from the Yield PRO Sparta test plot, and the Croplan 3899 from a corn on soybean field adjacent to the plot. The new 197-50stx seems to have a larger more massive stalk and root as compared to the 197-68stx. The new 201-61stx has an impressive broad massive root system. 202-52stx has a deep penetrating root system with many deep running nodal roots. It's important to evaluate the root structures and habits so proper hybrid selection can be made. Matching the correct root system to the right soil type can make a huge difference in Yield. Of course the weigh wagon will have the final say.
